Six Flags 2012

We made our once-a-summer trip to Six Flags with our Read to Succeed tickets. The kids get a free ticket each year for completing their reading logs, and I also get one as a teacher. We found coupons for tickets for $34.99 for Hubby and E through the March of Dimes, and then you had to add in $20 for parking. You can bring in food and drinks...so we packed our lunch.

This year there is a new show at Six Flags at the Crystal Pistol with i lunminate. A girl from school was telling me about this group...so I wanted to check it out. We were told that this group that performs at Six Flags was trained under the original group that was on TV. We waited in line about 20 minutes to get in to see the show, and only 2 of the 5 of us got a seat. The other 3 people had to stand in the balcony to watch. I bet this is the first time in a LONG time that the Crystal Pistol has seen a line to get inside!

Hubby & me

Our Boy & me on the Sky Buckets

Here's a pic of the group after riding Thunder River. I have not ridden this ride since I was a kid, and I had no plans to ride it today. I've had my insulin pump about 10 years now, and I try to stay away from things that will get my pump drenched. However, I did ride Thunder River with strong encouragement from the group...wearing my poncho ...and I still got wet! My pump...it was dry! On another note, E got thrown out of her seat while we were riding. And that is why I gave this ride a "thumbs down." By the way, the kids were completely drenched and  loved every minute of it!
After we were completely dry, we decided to ride another one of Our Girl's favorite water rides...Log Jamboree...or The Log Ride as we call it.
Check out these great pics from the ride!
Here's E with the kids after the Log Ride. As you can see, we were wet again!

We ended our day of fun with dinner at The Varsity! It was a great last day of Summer Vacation for this Mama who goes back to work for pre-planning on Monday. Good-bye Summer 2012...you've been fun!

"Kinda Cooking"

Here are 2 "recipes" for you! The first one I saw on Pinterest...cook your cinnamon rolls in a waffle iron...that's it...that's the recipe! Take your canned cinnamon rolls and put them in the waffle maker. Cook like a waffle, and then add the glaze when it comes out. As you can see, we have a Mickey Mouse waffle iron...shocking...but true! So, our cinnamon roll waffle was a little doughy in the middle, but still good. I'm not sure that I would cook the cinnamon rolls like this every time, but it was fun to try it!
The next recipe I thought up myself. I wanted some yummy fall-ish, down-home-ish, Thanksgiving-ish, good food. But, it's way too hot to be eating heavy food in the middle of summer! So, I peeled some sweet potatoes and cut them into thin medallions. Then I sprinkled them with a little cinnamon and sugar, and topped them with marshmallows. I cooked them on 350 degrees for about 10 minutes, and then yum...Summer Sweet Potatoes! The kids loved them too, and they usually don't like Sweet Potato Souffle...which they clearly get from their Daddy and not their Southern Mama!
Well, now you know why I used "recipes" loosely in quotation marks! More like..."Kinda Cooking" in the kitchen. Let me know what new "recipes" you've been cooking!

End of School Art

For the summer, our school leaves art work up on the bulletin boards. The art teacher used a circle theme with the elementary kids this year.
