The Wonder of Roasting Marshmallows

Our kids' ages are 5 and 4, and they just had their first experience roasting marshmallows this week. I'm trying to decide if they've been deprived or if we're right on schedule with their ages and this milestone. I mean...you can't have infants mixing with fire, but they could have at least tasted a roasted marshmallow before now--you think?
